zuma & ROKA Partner Clean Air Network - Campaign Against Hong Kong Pollution
Internationally acclaimed Japanese restaurant and nightspot zuma at The Landmark and sister restaurant ROKA, a cosy and sociable Japanese robata grill in Pacific Place, are partnering with the Clean Air Network’s (CAN) campaign against Hong Kong’s air pollution.
Both restaurants are joining the cause by having their staff wear t-shirts in support of the Clean Air Network’s initiatives, as well as distributing pollution information with a petition among guests from February 16–28.
Clean Air Network (www.hongkongcan.org) educates the public about the health impacts of air pollution and is mobilising public support for cleaner air in Hong Kong.
The petition is a major element of CAN's "Clean up the air, one signature at a time" campaign, which will be promoted in March on billboards, TVB, the MTR, trams and newspapers.
Other leading restaurants in Hong Kong are expected to follow zuma and ROKA’s initiative and join the campaign.
CAN ambassador Joanne Ooi said: "I salute zuma and ROKA for having the leadership and vision to suggest the idea of petition sign-up at their restaurants first. These restaurants are popular with opinion leaders and will undoubtedly be a major boost in visibility for our campaign.”

Working closely with District Councilors, LegCo members and community, business and student leaders, CAN is spreading its message through numerous channels -- including street discussion forums and educational talks.

As the only Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong using charcoal grills, both zuma and ROKA have strict self-imposed air filtration and cleaning systems in order to be in compliance with EPD air quality regulations and in some instances may even exceed the requirements. These include electrostatic precipitators to eliminate smoke, dust and oil particles, in addition to triple carbon chemical agent filters to absorb dangerous fumes, gases and airborne contaminants ensuring they are not expelled into the air.
