Tell us a little bit about how you got started DJing. Who was your biggest inspiration?

I have been Djing for many years now, I got into electronic music in my late teens, there has always been a really strong scene in Belgium and the biggest artists in the world always play here. I started out listening to a lot of Rave and Techno music, artists like Jeff Mills. But over the years my I got into more sounds, electro and house, all of which have shaped the direction my music has gone in today!

How do you feel that DJing and producing has changed over the last few years?

I think the focus on tracks for the festivals; everything is geared towards this now. Hugh production and big sets, I feel that Tomorrowland, the festival I am a resident for and host an arena at really set the trend and now its something we see at every event worldwide, its amazing and the crowds are getting bigger and bigger. Every country in the world now has its own landmark event, its incredible as it shows the power that our music currently holds and how much it brings people together is still inspiring.

What was your favourite memory of 2014 and what do you have planned for 2015?

My best year from 2014 has to be debuting in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll. It was totally unexpected, so when I found out I had made it to No.55 I was blown away, it was a great moment. As its voted for but the fans it’s a real indicator as to the impact your music is having, for me that’s what’s important, knowing the fans are feeling what it is I do it above all else!

Aside from your DJ equipment, name your top three touring essentials.

Well its quite essential to travel light, stay in touch and keep yourself entertained. So my touring essential, that I would never hit the road without are my Iphone, Ipad (with movies for long flights) and Flip Flops for that summerfeeling.

What is the weirdest thing that you’ve seen from the DJ booth?

You always see some strange things from the DJ booth, usually your in an elevated position so you look down and see the chaos unfurl beneath you. But for me the weirdest thing, but also quite funny, was during the world cup final last year. I was playing a set and the crowd were watching the football, It made me laugh. The Belgium national team, who I support, did so well in last years finals, I totally get where the crowd were coming from!

Do you have any pre-gig rituals?

No I just try and focus, take a few moments to go through some of the tracks im thinking of playing.

Who in your opinion are the best up-and-coming producers at the moment?

Im really into Kshmr at the moment, he had been doing a lot of cool tracks recently and I can see him having a really big year. Ftampa is another artist I really respect and have been playing his music out for some time now and the focus on him within the scene at the moment is amazing.

If you weren’t a DJ/Producer what would you be doing?

Well before I took this up full time I was a Physical Education teacher, so I imagine I would be doing that. Although in my free time I would still be making beats and DJing in my bedroom. I love it that much.

What tracks/ projects can we look forward to in the upcoming months?

Im shortly releasing my collaboration with Promise Land, called memories will Fade its been getting a big reponce every time I have dropped it in one of my sets. I always make sure to road test tracks and gague the reaction from the corwd before I decded to release them and this one has been really getting the fans hyped!

What would be your dream collaboration?

Dream collaboration, from any genre. It’s a tough question, but if I could choose anyone, it would be to work with Coldplay and get Birdy on the vocals. I think that would be amazing mixture of styles and ideas!

Yves V will be at Club Cubic on 10th April 2015. CLICK HERE FOR MORE DETAILS.
