Before The Black Madonna's first performance in Hong Kong, hkclubbing.com got an exclusive chance to ask her a few questions to find out more about her, what she thinks of Sonar and of course Hong Kong!
So what have you heard of the Hong Kong music scene that we have here?
I have had friends in the street dance scene in Hong Kong so most of my information really comes from that corner of the community. I hope to learn a lot more first hand on this trip.
What have you been working on recently since the start of 2018?
I’ve been expanding the We Still Believe event and taking it around the world. It’s been really successful past what I had ever hoped and so I’m just working with the dancers, sound designers and other artisans to work on the next round of those shows for this year. We want it to be a really special experience.
Is there any artist that you would like to collaborate with in the near future?
I’m dying to work with my friend, Roisin Murphy.
In 2017, what was one of your best gig experiences and why?
I would definitely say the magnitude of Sonar Barcelona was something I will never forget. Such an amazing crowd.
Is there anything in particular you wanted to see or do while you are in Hong Kong?
I want to try as many kinds of food as I can! The cuisine is incredible.
When on tour, what would be your three touring essential items to bring along?
Wireless headphones, compression socks and my bomber jacket that I always wear on the road.
What are you looking forward to in 2018 such as dates or releases?
I’m looking forward to expanding the We Still Believe event and of course I’m looking forward to playing with Laurent Garnier back to back this spring.
Finally, what does Sónar mean to you and why should everyone be there?
Sonar is truly global. The crowds are different in each city but seeking essentially the same thing. It’s a world class audience and a wonderful way to engage a whole universe of dancers.
The Black Madonna will be DJing on the 17th (Saturday) March from 22:30 to 23:55 on the SonarClub stage at Sonar 20018 Hong Kong.
