For 18 years I have been booking artists from around the world, mainly for Hong Kong, Macau and China. I have always kept in mind that some DJ artist names are two (or more) and when I have booked them I always wanted to make it clear who the customer should expect to see.
So for example when I arranged the booking of Super Flu in Hong Kong this year, it was clear that just one of them were coming. Because if the audience wanted to see the other member, I did not want to mislead or disappoint them when they arrived at the event. So therefore when it came to announce the event and marketing, only one member was mentioned.
I have always felt that it is best to be clear about this and who will be there. Unfortunately not everyone believes in this and as a fan of certain artists, when I have attended other events organised by other companies they use the artist name that is a duo and only one shows up. The one that did not turn up was the member of the duo that I wanted to see the most, because of their performances and productions that I have seen in the past, was the reason why I wanted to see them. So of course after paying to go and then not seeing the artist I wanted to see, I felt that I was missing out on what I planned to attend.
This is something that I do not see others talking about that much, which surprises me, if you like to see that artist, then why not see both members and not just one.
Do note though, some artists that consist of two members, one does not tour and produces the music, while only the other one does the touring and DJing. But these artists are known for this from the beginning and that is how they have always done it. This is fine, it is when both are known for touring and DJing and it is not mentioned in the marketing that I feel it is not right.
Let us know what you think about this and have you been to an event and only one of two of the DJs was on stage? How did you feel?
