You may not know his name, you'll definitely know his music. From hits like 'Love is Blind', 'No', his Grammy winning remix of 'Summertime Sadness' with Cedric Gervais, to touring with Galantis and Kaskade, CID definitely has a lot under his belt. Before his set on 12th May at Zentral, we took some time to chat with him about his time at the Grammys and on the road.
1) How would you describe your music?
I think the best way to describe my music is house music with a new school approach. I'm trying to make club tracks like "No" and "Together", as well as original songs that people can connect to on an emotional level that still work in my DJ sets, like my collaboration with Kaskade - "Us".
2) How did you feel about the Grammy win? Were you able to make it to the awards?
Winning the Grammy with Cedric Gervais was an incredible experience. I owe a lot to Cedric, he's a great producer and being able to be a part of this remix was amazing. I was at the Grammys when we won, and it was such a surreal experience being there surrounded by so many distinguished artists.
3) Have you met up with Lana Del Rey after the Grammy win? We love her!
I've been a fan of her music for a long time. I've never met met her but hope to one day!
4) How does it feel like to tour with Galantis? Any unforgettable moments?
The Galantis guys are awesome. I've been a fan of both of their careers even before they started Galantis, so getting asked to go on this tour with them was really something special for me. To be honest every city was unforgettable. A couple months prior I did a tour with Kaskade, and we played in a bunch of cities that I had never played in. This time around on the Galantis tour, we hit a lot of those same cities and it was amazing to see the reaction to my music because this time around, people really knew all the songs and would sing along.
5) Is it your first time in Hong Kong, or Asia? Anything you're looking forward to trying in Hong Kong?
Its my first time in Hong Kong but not my first time in Asia. I had done a small tour a couple years ago but didn't get a chance to stop in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is at the top of my list of cities I've always wanted to visit! I have a couple days between shows, so I will definitely be exploring as much of the city as I can and eating all the food I can try! You know any good dim sum spots?
6) What are the three crucial things that make an incredible party?
A great crowd! A great sound system! And some drinks!
7) What can clubbers and fans look forward to your upcoming set at Zentral?
I've been locked in the studio this whole month working on new music. They can definitely expect to hear A LOT of new music and edits from me! I have some secret weapons up my sleeve ;)
8) P.S. We love jamming to "No!" in the office, but what is your favourite track to dance to?
Haha! That's amazing! This is such a tough question... My ALL time favorite song to dance too is probably Daft Punk - One More Time.
