We had the chance to interview Bob Hardy from Franz Ferdinand before the bands show in Hong Kong this month!
You have toured all over Asia already, is there anywhere left that you still have not performed?
This tour is the first time we will play in mainland China. We have Chinese friends in London that have been telling us for years that we should go and play there, so finally we are!
Five years ago back in 2013 you headlined Clockenflap Festival in Hong Kong. What were your memories of the city and will you have time to explore more?
Unfortunately I wasn’t actually with the band at the Clockenflap festival, the last time I was in Hong Kong was 2006! So I’m very excited to get back after all these years. I remember it being a very exciting place, full of life, and I’m eager to explore it some more.
After your tour for the rest of the year, what are your plans for 2019?
We’re going to take a few weeks off and then reconvene in Scotland and work on some new tunes. I expect we’ll also play a few shows but it won’t be an extensive world tour.
'Always Ascending' is your fifth studio album that was released back in February this year. What are your feelings on the public's response to the new music?
We’ve been really happy with the reception the new material has received in our live shows. We were recently down in South America and the fans there were singing along with all the new songs. That’s a very special feeling. We’re looking forward to coming to play them in SE Asia.
Your latest album was released on 12" vinyl, CD, and a limited edition cassette. Do you find your fans still love and request listening to your music through these different methods or was that more of your personal choice to give your fans a choice?
I think giving fans a choice of format is essential. We put a lot of energy into our artwork and it pleases us to be able to see how it looks on different items. I did enjoy the cassette especially as that’s the format that I bought my first albums on in the 1980s.
