You probably all know him for that gorgeous looking face of his on his works as a print model and as an actor; with that obvious fact that he is also the son of Hong Kong’s very own legendary George Lam. But little did you know, he is also a passionate musician, with his face completely changing when he talks about music. Well spoken, quiet but determined; his performance that night spoke louder than his appearance which everyone sees at first glance.

So what does Guinness stand for you?
I had my first experience with Guinness when I was very young; as my father brought me along to Mexico for his shooting as the Asia region spokesperson for Guinness.
What’s the difference between the regular “yellow” beers with the black Guinness?
The black Guinness is much cooler and is a drink for grownup men.

Was there a special moment you shared with Guinness? Anything interesting that happened when you enjoy your Guinness?
Apart from the experience previously mentioned; I was also told by a friend who went travelling in Europe that he saw my dad’s name on a wall where all the spokespeople for Guinness was enscripted onto. I was so proud of my father, and am once again reminded how globally recognized this brand is.
Being so connect with the brand at such an early age; how do you feel about being one of the participating parties in their “Paint the Town Black” campaign under your own name this time?
I feel really excited, especially because I am here to play with my band. My band members don’t only play for me, they are also in several other bands; so it’s great I get to see and mingle with other musicians here tonight. It’s also very rare for such an event to take place, organizing band performances at a bar consecutively for several weeks. From where I studied in the UK, there are performances in local pubs too, but they are usually for indie bands at a much smaller scale with a much different sound.

Considering that Alex is also an 80’s baby, it must have been around 20 years ago when Guinness spread their name to Asia through his father’s presence. Thinking about it, this drink is not only a popular Irish dry stout, but a sensation that has gone through the entire world delivering not only quality drinks but amazing performances with their campaigns. A lovely ending night here in Hong Kong talking to different participating parties; we await until the next Guinness event, each cheering on with a glass of black greatness in our hands.
