Third Network Under MTV World Goes Live on June 27th On Air and Online at 8 pm ET/PT

Newest MTV Addition to Super-Serve Korean-Americans In The US

MTV World today announced the launch of its third network, MTV K, the first channel dedicated to young Korean-Americans set to premiere on air and online on June 27 at 8 pm ET/PT. Beginning today, MTV K asked fans worldwide to log on to mtvk.com and help determine the channel’s historic debut by voting for the channel’s kick-off video.

A 24-hour, music-centered channel featuring the hottest K-pop, hip hop and punk, MTV K will feature a mix of original programming, live events and some of the best programming from its international affiliates. Presented in English by bi-lingual, U.S. based VJs and other guest hosts, K will also showcase the vast influence of Korean culture beyond just the music: spotlighting Korean movies, drama and fashion.

MTV K will be available from DIRECTV in the KoreanDirect™ package, part of WorldDirect™ service and will also be available on Verizon FiOS TV in the near future.

“We are always trying to expand our content to better serve our incredibly diverse audience,” said Christina Norman, President of MTV. “MTV World has already seen great success with the addition of MTV Desi and MTV Chi, and with the Korean pop phenomenon spreading wildly across Asia, it was only a matter of time before we created a platform for this increasingly popular and influential culture within the U.S.”

“Korean pop culture is exploding worldwide and is the next big influence in music,” said Nusrat Durrani, General Manager and Senior Vice President, MTV World. “MTV K’s mission is to provide millions of Korean-Americans with a unique connection to an exciting and evolving new culture that draws from both Korean and American influences.”

MTV News correspondent SuChin Pak will kick off the inaugural and historic telecast, unveiling the first music video to be played on the channel, and new MTV K personality Eunju Yang will host the channel's first countdown show. MTV Chi’s launch attracted over 500,000 votes for the channel’s first video, Jin’s “Learn Chinese”, joining the ranks of The Buggles (MTV US in 1981) and the Dire Straits (MTV Europe in 1987).

The list of original programming includes a weekly countdown show, Top 10 Kountdown; On LoKation, introducing the newest hotspots, exciting events, clubs, and restaurants heavily populated by young Korean-American crowds, and  Hip Hop Seoul, which exposes K’s viewers to the best Korean hip hop music videos from old school rappers to new emerging artists. Hourly news program MTV News on K will be the first news service catering to young Korean-Americans with an on-the-hour update of the latest happenings in the Korean-American community at large.

MTV K will be the third channel launched by MTV World this year, each designed to super-serve ethnic populations in the United States. MTV Desi, serving audiences with roots in the Indian sub-continent launched July 12, 2005, and MTV Chi, serving bi-cultural Chinese-Americans, launched December 6, 2005.

DIRECTV’s KoreanDirect package, which is currently available to DIRECTV customers nationwide for $26.99 per month, was launched in April of this year, MTV K will be added to the package at no additional charge.

This summer HK Live! presents a sizzling line-up of some of Hong Kong’s edgiest punk and experimental rock bands. After the amazingly cool show that was the June HK Live! where electronica made the Fringe Club’s bricks vibrate with extreme volumes; July switches to raw punk energy.

Climax headline the July 8 gig as one of Hong Kong’s most notorious punk bands, who are fast making a name for themselves in the city’s mainstream music scene. The Climax sound combines pop, rock, rockabilly, big band, ska and traditional Chinese music in an all-encompassing, stunning live show. Fronted by the famed local comic artist Elphonso, their debut album “Rock My Planet” has just been released and is hitting the city’s radio waves.

22 Cats come in with support as a truly respected name in the Hong Kong underground music scene. The band’s experimental rock songs have climbed the CR2 music charts numerous times. This summer 22 Cats release their second album “She Will Eat You”.

Hard Candy opens the show as one of the city’s coolest all-girl bands. The trio plays experimental punk music influenced by early 90’s grunge and noise pop. Their name was inspired by heavy rock music and the sweetness of femininity, says singer and guitarist Yanyan Pang.

We are proud to announce that Dominic Lau from Channel [V] will be the guest MC in July. Channel [V] is the Official Music Channel for HK Live! They will be filming the shows, interviewing the bands and screening footage of the event across Asia on their International Channel.

HK Live!
Saturday, July 8th. Show Starts: 10pm, doors open at 9pm.

Fringe Gallery and Economist Gallery, The Fringe Club, 2 Lower Albert Road, Central. Tickets: $100 available in advance from The Fringe Club and $150 on the door.  For more information on HK Live, log onto www.hk-live.com or call 2850-5065. You can also tune in to Channel [V] International, available on Now Broadband TV Channel 555.

HK Live! is a series of band showcase nights organized by Hong Kong’s leading city living magazine, HK Magazine. The shows feature the best emerging and established bands of the Hong Kong music scene and a cast of music personalities from around the world.

A Luxurious Manor in the Heart of Tsim Sha Tsui

With abstract interiors, make-believe gatekeepers and the most high tech features of any hotel in the region, The Luxe Manor will open on Kimberley Road in autumn 2006 as Kowloon’s first designer boutique hotel.

The new luxury hotel features a “surreal” concept and design: a modern reinterpretation of a European mansion featuring mythical characters within its architecture and design elements which recall the works of the twentieth century surrealists.

Designed to appeal to a uniquely stylish segment of luxury leisure and business travellers, the 14 floor, 159 room property -- in the buzzing dining and entertainment district of Knutsford Terrace in Tsim Sha Tsui -- is to be ‘where the surreal slumber.’

The Luxe Manor is designed by Aedas Interiors’ renowned Hong Kong designer, David Buffery, whose other projects include FINDS Scandinavian restaurant in Lan Kwai Fong and the newly opened LOTUS on Pottinger Street.

Decorated with European antiques and modern pieces, The Luxe Manor will offer colourful, splendid European architecture with an oriental touch.

The hotel’s recently appointed General Manager, Allan Strahle stated, “The Luxe Manor will fill a niche for both business and leisure travellers that wish to be stimulated by their surroundings. It will offer all of the amenities and services required and desired – within a space that engages the imagination.”

The boutique hotel’s unique design is quirky and fun, yet comfortably stylish. Playing with illusion – where reality meets fiction and tradition meets modernity - the standard room design emulates and interprets the grandness of an antique bedroom filled with family heirlooms. Meanwhile, the television is placed within a framed mirror with the equipment stowed in a faux fireplace.

Of the 159 rooms, six theme suites, reigning in individuality, take the overall design scheme even further: one features a nest-like circular bed; another, a Bedouin tent; and a third is super-glamorous with mirrored wallpaper. These suites are certain to become the most innovative themed guest rooms in Hong Kong.

The Luxe Manor will also offer two exciting new restaurants run by some of Hong Kong’s leading restaurant operators. And, a master of Italian haute cuisine, recently flown in from Europe, is poised to offer a glimpse of the culinary delights of Italy.

The Luxe Manor will also provide a business centre with full secretarial services, Library & Gallery, Mini-gym and Meeting and Breakout rooms.

Advanced technology is another facet of the hotel’s many features.  Designed by IT Guru, Terence Ronson of Pertlink, in-room technology includes NXTV’s Interactive Infotainment System viewable through an LCD Flat Panel TV; High Definition video-on-demand; wireless VoIP telephony; and wireless broadband internet access throughout the hotel.

Additional in-room features include luxurious bath products, a digital in-room safe, mini bar, designer tea and coffee set, sleek contemporary bathrooms with rain showers and a secure key card system for the lifts and guest rooms.

The Luxe Manor is owned and operated by GR8 Leisure Concept, a Hong Kong hospitality group, and is set to open in autumn 2006.
