Hong Kong’s DJ and musical community comes together next week to celebrate the life and legacy of Hong Kong’s beloved DJ Kulu at The Big Top, AIA Carnival at Central Waterfront, Hong Kong on Tuesday 21 January 2025.
A true icon of the city of Hong Kong, DJ Kulu transitioned from a successful career as a fashion photographer to become a master DJ, captivating audiences with his vibrant sets that seamlessly blended funk, soul, and jazz.
The memorial event will be a heartfelt gathering of friends, family, and fans, honouring Kulu’s remarkable contributions to Hong Kong’s music scene. The evening will feature an array of performances and tributes, befitting the legacy of memories DJ Kulu bequeathed to our community.
The passing of DJ Kulu marks not only the loss of a cherished figure in the DJ booth but also the closing chapter of an era in Hong Kong’s vibrant cultural landscape.
Born in the year that World War II ended, KULU departed from us on the final day of 2024. As poet Leung Ping-Kwan eloquently expressed, Hong Kong is a “City at the End of Time,” adept at navigating the complexities of shifting cultural identities.
Kulu’s legacy as a godfather of Hong Kong’s dynamic DJ scene will forever resonate within the community he loved so dearly. His unique ability to connect through music has left an indelible mark on countless lives.
