Tell us a little bit about how you got started as a DJ / Producer? Who was your biggest inspiration?
-Carlo: I started as a DJ a few years ago, I felt in love with it when I was at my first party in a club, that was what I wanted to do! And so after some years I wanted to learn how to produce music to play my own beats, it was really inspiring to see all the US DJ’s playing their own sound rocking the clubs and that was my target as well! I really love to produce my own stuff!
-Gianni: back in the day I owned one of the strongest record stores in the south of Italy and I’ve been in the dance music for ever being in touch with all the DJ’s that I had as clients, from there was really easy to jump in the dj box cause I had always the newest promos LOL! Then Daft Punk changed the game and I felt in love with the studio work starting to produce.
Will this be your first time in Hong Kong? Is there anything that you are looking forward to doing or seeing in particular?
Yes it is our first time in Hong Kong, and we are really excited about that, of course we also want to visit this amazing town making some wild shopping! Technology!
How do you feel that DJing and producing has changed over the last few years?
In the past it was more difficult for sure. You had to play with vinyl and you had to do that properly! Then to produce you needed big studios and big and expensive machines! Now for the young generations it is more easy, you could do anything with a laptop but on the other hand now the quality has to be much better because there is much more completion all around. You’ve to challenge yourself maybe working with such great artists like Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and it means also to be a pop star, so it’s an unbelievable and exciting experience to do.
What was your favourite memory of 2012 and what do you have planned for 2013?
2012 has been a great one, the most favourite moment was at Ushuaia in Ibiza last summer with David Guetta and Nervo, we had a lot of fun playing all together and about 12.000 party people were there. About the 2013, we have planned a tour around the world, because it’s really important to stay in touch with the crowd, and we are also ready to release some new tune on Jack Back Records, Spinnin Records and we are also planning a brand new release with David Guetta.
What can we expect from your upcoming performance at Dragon-i?
We knew that “Dragon I” is one of the best club here in Hong Kong, so we are really proud to be here and we expect to have a lot of fun and good energy.
Aside from your DJ equipment, name you top three touring essentials.
-Carlo: for us touring also means to stay away from home for weeks. So it’s really essential to have my Iphone, my Ipad Mini and a good internet connection to stay in touch with friends and family! And then some Vodka is the best way to start to party.
-Gianni: same here, I could never stay one single minute without my Iphone, and then it’s essential to me and a hotel with the gym to train!
Tell us a story from tour that shocked you?
One really good one was in Milan last month, we were the opening act of the David Guetta show and he came 1 hour late… it was a shock for us, because we were starting to think that he wouldn’t come at all, so you can imagine how scared we were with 15.000 people there waiting for him!
Do you have any pre gig rituals?
Yes, while we are going to the club we decide together just the first track to play and who of us will start. And then from there we’ll see step by step.
Who in your opinion are the best up-and-coming producers at the moment?
Nicky Romero and Nervo are on fire, but Alesso is a very good producer too, but we love our boys Cryogenix!!! Have a check on them!
If you weren’t a DJ/Producer what would you be doing?
-Carlo: It’s really hard for me to imagine myself not doing what I do, so maybe nothing at all…sleeping all day???
-Gianni: I’ve never considered any other option, so I really don’t know!
Daddy's Groove will be at Dragon-I on the 2nd March 2013
