During a career that now spans more than two decades, HEIKO LAUX has been one of the main artists who defined the sound the world now calls “Berlin techno”.

In 1994, Heiko founded his label Kanzleramt, which has released music from a who’s who of techno artists including Robert Hood, Anthony Rother, Alexander Kowalski, Steve Rachmad, Johannes Heil and Truncate. Kanzleramt has been one of Germany’s premier electronic music labels since its inception, and almost 25 years later it continues to push the boundaries in contemporary techno.

As a DJ, Heiko continues to perform in Berlin’s top clubs such as Berghain and Tresor, as well as top clubs around the world from Los Angeles to Tokyo. But wherever he plays, even dedicated techno heads will experience music they have never heard before. “Sometimes I have a track prepared for a set and I feel that it would be too weird to put it because only I understand what it’s about. And then the promoter asks me to play an hour longer and I have to put it on, as it is already there, ready for the sound system. And suddenly the crowd responds madly, I see that they understand what I am ‘saying’, and that’s the biggest reward for a DJ or musician ever.”

Apart from his own releases on Kanzleramt, Heiko’s music has also appeared on other towering techno labels such as Josh Wink’s Ovum, Figure, Soma and most recently Klockworks, the acclaimed imprint operated by Berghain resident Ben Klock.
From starting out in 1994 in the heat of the techno uprising, Heiko has experienced many movements in this musical sphere, and he will always play an important role and symbolise the globally celebrated golden age of techno.

With no interest in remaking albums or dwelling on the past, Heiko is constantly moving forward, finding new inspiration. And he will share some of this inspiration when he makes his Hong Kong debut at Social Room on October 14, where he will be supported by PUSH residents Frankie Lam and AKW, plus Ocean Lam (Hypnotic/Social Room).
